John Lennon had Yoko, Taylor Swift had Joe and now G Flip has Chrishell Stause, the muse behind their new song “Be Your Man.”

The soul-baring single, which is now available to stream, is the first song the multitalented Australian musician ever wrote about Stause in the earliest days of their romance. The track serves as both a mission statement and road map to their love story, which fans have tracked breathlessly across TikTok, flirty Instagram comments and now the new season of Selling Sunset.

The single’s hook — “I’m not what you planned, but I’ll be your man” — was the “earliest seed of inspiration” for G Flip in the songwriting process. “Obviously it’s a very personal situation to me,” the singer, who identifies as nonbinary, tells Tudum. “I wasn’t who Chrishell planned to fall in love with and be with.”

G Flip and Stause first confirmed their relationship during the Season 5 reunion following Stause’s split with boss Jason Oppenheim. Since then, the pair haven’t left each other’s side (case in point: Stause’s steamy role in G Flip’s “Get Me Outta Here” music video).

But while the origins of the “Be Your Man” are rooted in the couple’s love story, G Flip also hopes that the message will resonate with “anyone that has ever fought for someone to give them a chance at love.” In the accompanying music video above, G Flip stars as a woman in the ’50s dreaming of living an authentic life at a queer ball, filled with couples of all kinds.

“Be Your Man” is featured in Selling Sunset Season 6, which launches May 19, and also marks G Flip’s first on-screen appearance. Stepping into Stause’s world wasn’t exactly a natural fit for the singer, who said they “didn’t really want to be on the show” initially.

But after talking it through with Stause, the two realized there was another reason to let the cameras into their lives. “I was not sure what my place would be or what they wanted to do with me,” says G Flip. “Then, we had a conversation about representation for queer people in the media and representation for nonbinary people, and we thought, ‘You know what? I’ll be involved.’ We just want something to reflect our beautiful relationship and for it to not get misconstrued.”

However, don’t expect to see the musician squabbling at a broker’s open anytime soon. “I’m just such not a dramatic human being,” they explain. “I don’t like conflict or fighting. I’m just not that guy.” For the record, they have zero beef with the cast, sharing that everyone has been “super lovely” and that they “even get along with the bros,” Jason and Brett Oppenheim.

And whether you see them on-screen or not, know that G Flip is forever in Stause’s corner. “I’ve picked her up from scenes and I’m always there when she needs me straightaway after something crazy’s gone down,” they say.

As for what the future holds for the couple, G Flip only wants to keep growing together. “We’ve got so many things we want to do,” they say. “I want to go back to Kentucky so bad and see where Chrishell grew up and meet her little sister and more of her family members. Just being happy and experiencing life together as this cute little team.”
