John Douglas Thompson is heading from 19th-century New York City to the present-day Bible Belt: The Gilded Age star is joining All the Sinners Bleed, the upcoming adaptation of S.A. Cosby’s thriller of the same name.

Executive produced and written by Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, American Crime Story), the nine-episode series follows Titus Crown (Black Rabbit’s Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù), the first Black sheriff in a rural county in the American South. Haunted by his mother’s untimely death, Titus is hunting down a serial killer who has been quietly preying on the local Black community for years in the name of God. Thompson will play Albert Crown, Titus’ father.

“I was attracted to All the Sinners Bleed for its undeniable singularity,” Thompson tells Tudum. “There is a depth and authenticity to this story that I am excited to explore and bring to life. As it relates to The Gilded Age, there is fun and fascination in playing patriarchs from two different centuries.”
